Chikmagalur lies in the foothills of the Western Ghats and is one of Karnataka’s most beautiful hill destinations. The name means “Town of the Younger Daughter” in Kannada. It is historically important as the place where coffee cultivation was first introduced in India by Baba Budan in the 17th century.

The region is surrounded by mist-covered hills, dense forests, wildlife sanctuaries, and scenic valleys. It is home to Karnataka’s highest peak:
