About Konark Sun Temple

The Konark Sun Temple, built in the 13th century by King Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty, is one of India’s most magnificent temples. Designed in the form of a colossal stone chariot of the Sun God Surya, the temple is adorned with 24 exquisitely carved wheels and pulled by seven stone horses.

The temple showcases the pinnacle of Kalinga architecture and reflects advanced knowledge of astronomy, engineering, and sculpture. Although parts of the original structure are now in ruins, the remaining architecture continues to mesmerize visitors. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Konark Sun Temple stands as a symbol of Odisha’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.
