Wildlife SanctuaryEstablished in 1966, Tal Chhapar Wildlife Sanctuary covers around 7 sq. km and lies in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. Unlike most Rajasthan forests that are dry and thorny, Tal Chhapar consists mainly of flat saline grasslands (called Tal), which provide ideal habitat for Blackbucks (Antilope cervicapra).
The sanctuary is also a paradise for bird watchers. During winter, it becomes home to migratory birds such as:
1..Harriers
2..Demoiselle Cranes
3..Short-toed Eagles
4..Skylarks
5..Desert Wheatears
Because of its open terrain, wildlife viewing is easy compared to dense forest reserves.
The sanctuary plays an important ecological role in conserving Rajasthan’s grassland ecosystem, which is rare and endangered.
