About Valley of Flowers National Park

Valley of Flowers National Park was established in 1982 and lies at high altitude (approximately 3,352–3,658 m above sea level). It forms one of the two core areas of the Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers National Parks, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for outstanding natural beauty and biodiversity.

The valley bursts into spectacular color during the monsoon months as hundreds of species of endemic alpine flowers — from blue poppies to Brahma kamal and primulas — carpet the meadows. It also hosts rare and endangered fauna including snow leopards, Asiatic black bears, musk deer, brown bears, and Himalayan birds such as the monal pheasant.

There are no permanent human settlements inside the park, and grazing or camping within the valley is prohibited to protect its fragile ecosystems. Visitors enter from the village of Ghangaria, trekking through forests, rivers, and scenic trails.
