Hill StationYercaud is situated at an altitude of approximately 1,515 meters (4,970 ft) above sea level in the Eastern Ghats. The name “Yercaud” comes from the Tamil words “Yeri” (Lake) and “Kaadu” (Forest), meaning Lake Forest.
The hill station is famous for its lush greenery, orange groves, coffee estates, and mist-covered viewpoints. It was developed during the British era as a summer retreat and still retains colonial charm.
The centerpiece of Yercaud is Yercaud Lake, also known as Emerald Lake, surrounded by gardens and boating facilities. The region also hosts the Shevaroy Hills, which provide panoramic valley views and trekking opportunities.
