ZooThe Allen Forest Zoo was established in the early 1970s in what was once a rich forest area within Kanpur city. Named after Sir Allen, a British officer associated with forest conservation, the zoo combines wildlife exhibits with a natural forest setting — a rare characteristic among Indian zoos.
Spread over several hectares, the zoo houses a diverse range of animals such as big cats (tigers, lions), herbivores (deer, antelope), primates, birds including emus and ostriches, reptiles, and aquatic life. It also features a botanical garden with rare plants, a lake, aviary, aquarium, and novelty attractions like life-size dinosaur sculptures.
The zoo is designed to give animals more natural, open and moated enclosures, and it serves as a site for wildlife education, conservation awareness, picnics, and family outings.
